Monday's challenge!

HI Ti Kouka!  Here is a challenge for you, please ignore the fact some glasses are different sizes for this, I couldn't find enough of the same size.  Good luck with this, if you figure it out then try it on someone else.  Also you can let me know what your up to by emailing me at dave.pearson@birchwood.school.nz

Also below is something to test your spelling skills

Boggle
Make as many words as you can from the following letters. You can only use each letter once in each word but you can then use the same letter again in the next word.

       C   R   S
     A   T   B
       E    O   M

Zico has a go at the boggle and the glass of water challenge...which he said was "Sooooo annoying" but he got there in the end.

Octopus Assignment

The Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus
Visit this website (on our blog websites section)
zapatopi.net/treeoctopus/
With help from an adult, find out a few facts about this interesting creature.
e.g Where does it live?
What is it’s name in Dutch or German?
Is it endangered?  Why?

I took advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday (Wednesday) and thought I'd enjoy a nice pre-lockdown morning at Monaco with my family. That's my one year old daughter Lia you can hear chatting away in the background.  We are now looking at the outside activities we can do around our house....setting up our compost bin and planting a feijoa tree has been a good start!

Zico holding some of the worms that will call our compost bin their new home.

Term 1 - Week 8

Hi team, Kia Kaha, (stay strong) and I hope you are all well.  A strange time for us all at the moment, my family and I are thinking of you all and hoping you are still sharing smiles, laughter and kindness with each other.  Fleur and I will be using this blog as our teaching platform....kind of a one stop shop really, the students have been using it daily in class so it seems best to keep using what we know.  It will be up to you how often you do any tasks and when, I know you have many other things to deal with at the moment.  Studyladder has a quick link on this blog which is an easy way in as the students only need to know their password (as opposed to the username and password if you go in via the studyladder homepage).

Students, this is a great opportunity for you to show our GROW values at home.  You have been so great in school at doing all the little jobs like watering the plants, putting the computers away, tidying our library area and quiet space, now you can do this at home...keep your room tidy, help with washing (clothes and dishes), look after your pets, do jobs before waiting to be asked, try learning to do new jobs you haven't done before...I know you can do it!

Many thanks,

Dave.

First Assignment:

Green time vs Screen time
Keep a tally chart and put  a mark beside green or screen for each hour you spend on either.

Green time is one hour spent outside in nature, during this lockdown you will have to use your imagination and think of activities around the house, in your garden maybe.
Screen time is an hour spent on the computer, watching TV or movies.

Some ‘Green Time’ ideas:

Make a stacked rock tower as high as you can
Make a colour chart out of leaves on the ground, from darkest to lightest
Climb a tree
Balance on a fallen tree
Run around in the rain and splash in puddles
Hunt for bugs

Go on a sensory scavenger hunt (find something that fits inside something else, something furry,
A sweet smell,  something with a flaky surface, something mutli-coloured,
something rotten,
something smooth).

Thanks for doing all those extra little jobs that help Ti Kouka run smoothly Parker!

Eden leads the class through a game of maths hangman...a good game to play at home!
The students challenge each other to maths hangman.
Some chose an outdoor setting for this.

Term 1 - Week 5

Summer received our class award for having a positive attitude at school, being organised, and showing respect to others.  Well done summer!

We wrote about this strange creature this week.
Students had to include Where it lives, what it likes to eat, how does it catch its food?

It was a lovely sunny day so we went outside to share our writing with each other.
