Wednesday with Fleur

Whoop Whoop it's Wednesday  😁

Welcome back everyone!  Hope you've had a fun holiday break, I'm missing you so much!  Mr Pearson has set some work for the other days of the week.  If you're still working through this and want to keep going that's fine.  Wednesday is usually a different programme because I'm teaching so for those who want to I have added a table below showing your work for today.  Feel free to adapt whatever you like.  The writing in blue are links to other pages.  If you click on them it will take you to that page.

This is all very new to us all.  Remember to take lots of brain breaks and to have some fun along the way.  If it's not working for you change things so that it does.  There are lots of great sites on the blog however it's important to not spend too long on the computer.  Write on paper, read a book, do some exercise outside...

If you're able to share some of your work along the way that would be great.  For those who are not so savvy doing this (I understand it's complicated!) just leave a comment under our work for today and tell me how it's going.  You can e-mail Dave or myself at:  fleur.harpur@birchwood.school.nz   or dave.pearson@birchwood.school.nz

Thanks everyone and happy learning :)

Today’s Focus:
Learning:
How many days in each month,  months in the year,  days in a year?

Warm Up

Lesson
30 Days song - learn this song - write the main part out and put it on the wall …

How many days are in your birthday month? How many days in your family members birthday month?
Have a look at a calendar in your home
+      Do you know the order of the months?
Use the questions on the worksheet to answer questions about your calendar.

Can you work out how many days there are in a year?  How many days are there in a leap year?

Extra for Experts
What’s a leap year?

Be ready next week with an analogue clock (if you have one) as we are going to be learning how to read the time.

Writing

Sparks Writing

It’s your favourite day team!  Free Writing.  You may choose your own topic or use some of the helpful ideas below to spark some writing!

Either write on paper or on a google doc to share with me.
Write for at least 20 minutes.  Re-read your work.  Find 3 spelling words to fix.  Today’s Challenge … change two of your words into better words e.g. walked -> dawdled.

Read your work to someone in your household.  Ask them to tell you one thing they liked and one thing you could change to make your writing even better.

Diary Entry
I’d love to know what your day is like in your ‘bubble.’  Write a diary entry for your best day yet.  (This will be fun to share when we come back to class).

Easter Bunny
Imagine you’ve been requested by Easter Bunny to help with deliveries this year.  Write a story telling me what you got up to.  What went wrong?  How did you fix the problem?

Go on a Bear Hunt around your neighbourhood.  Make sure to have an adult with you.  How many did you count on the way?

These two were hanging out on a fence on Wensley Road in Richmond. I saw them on my walk :)

Art

Easter Bunny Art

The link above is the lesson that inspired me for our Art today.

There are two different bunnies you can have a go at.  The one on the youtube clip is the easier one.  The one above is the trickier one I copied from Catherine Rayner's Art.

Listen to the story below that inspired Catherine Rayner to draw such beautiful bunnies.

(Catherine Rayner is the illustrator - she painted the pictures).

Step 1

Watch the video below so you can see the steps I followed to draw a bunny.  Stop and start whenever you like. Use pencil or vivid.

Step 2:
As we don’t have access to dye I thought we might adapt things and source some dye ingredients from things we have in the kitchen.

Or

You could colour yours in with crayon/colouring pencils or you could just leave it as a pencil drawing.

Being Mindful

Do something nice for someone else in your family today.  You could…
+      Make them a card
+      Make a voucher for them e.g cup of tea voucher
+      Play a game of cards with a family member
+      Help with the dishes
+      Offer to help with some chores

Photos from the bunny art I did with my girls.

We used marmite, cocoa, coffee, tea bags, vanilla essence and soy sauce to make the brown dyes.  If you don't have a paintbrush you could use cotton buds, a pastry brush or even your fingers.  When it had dried I cut around the bunny.  Then I ripped strips of newspaper and stuck them onto a piece of black paper and stuck my bunny on the top.  I didn't stick the edge of his ears down or the whiskers.  I quite like the way they stick out.

This video clip below shows Neve, Lily and I attempting to have a go at following the youtube tutorial that I have added for our Art today.  Lots of fun and laughter.

Check out my blooper video below.  It just goes to show in Art you can definitely turn mistakes into treasures.  :)  It was fun getting my girls to join in on the fun!  Sorry about the filming ... there is lots I need to learn.
